This autumn, an investment related to the protection of biodiversity through the revitalization of the Historic Park of Pszczyna in the part of the Wild Promenade was completed.
A comprehensive task, carried out on the area of 16 hectares of the Wild Promenade Park, consisted in taking measures to protect endangered species of plants and animals living in the park. The aim was also to create in this place favorable conditions for the settlement of new species of plants, animals and insects. Funds from the European Union were obtained for the implementation of the task under the Regional Operational Program.
After the work carried out in the Wild Prmenade Park, there is a possibility of direct contact with the surrounding nature. Today, thanks to the network of canals, watercourses and ponds, you can meet such natural wonders here as: kingfishers, night herons, cranes, and with a bit of luck, hear an otter or spot beavers. In addition, microhabitats for insects (sowing seeds of wild species of flowers and herbs), reptiles, amphibians (stones in watercourses) and small mammals (through heaps of boughs and branches ~ acting as hiding places) were diversified, as well as nesting boxes for birds and shelters for bats.
As part of the investment, roads were rebuilt that will allow cyclists and pedestrians visiting the wild part of the Pszczyna Historical Park to admire the natural values without harming nature and the environment. Part of the investment also concerned the European Bison Showcase in the Historic Park of Pszczyna itself, such as the creation of a pond for water and marsh birds, drainage of the deer paddock or reconstruction of the former watercourse flowing through the facility. An additional element was an information and educational campaign aimed at children and teenagers, the aim of which was to increase awareness of biodiversity and the need to protect endangered species of animals and plants. Its educational effect, in the form of art works, can be admired at a temporary exhibition located in the homestead, in the educational and exhibition building.
